Polarization and Covalency in Alkali – Tetralide Clusters

چکیده

In this paper we discuss the structure of A 4 M 4 alkali(= A)–tetralide (= M) (= group 14) clusters. Without polarization these polyions consist of a central tetralide tetrahedron with each face capped by an alkali ion. We show that ionic polarization can lead to quite different cluster structures by breaking up of the tetralide tetrahedron into pairs M 2 , and it can even destroy covalent bonds in these clusters. Consequences for the structure of the solid, liquid and amorphous phase are discussed.

Polarization and Structure of Small Clusters

In this paper we report the structure of the Li4Ge4 cluster as a function of charge transfer and polarizability. We find that for small charge transfer (Q < 0.5) this cluster has the expected cubic structure: a Ge4 tetrahedron with a Li ion attached at large distance to each face. With increasing charge transfer Q > 0.5 the structure of Li4Ge4 changes: for relative small polarizability of the G...

Effect of light Polarization on the absorption index of alkali metal vapor in optical pumping phenomenon

Recently atomic magnetometers are one of the best tools in biomagnetic measurement such as magnetic field of brain and heart. In this paper, the technology of optically pumped atomic magnetometer based on circularly polarized light absorption pumping is described. We have been investigated a new method for measuring polarization effect in an alkali vapor based on polarized light transmission. I...

Electric dipole polarizabilities and C6 dipole-dipole dispersion coefficients for alkali metal clusters and C60

The frequency dependent polarizabilities of closed-shell alkali metal clusters containing up to ten lithium, potassium, and rubidium atoms have been calculated using the linear complex polarization propagator approach in conjunction with Hartree–Fock and Kohn–Sham density functional theory. In combination with polarizabilities for C60 from a previous work [J. Chem. Phys. 123, 124312 (2005)], th...

Features of chemical bonds based on the overlap polarizabilities: diatomic and solid-state systems with the frozen-density embedding approach.

The chemical bond overlap properties were obtained for alkali halides NaY (Y = F, Cl, Br), alkaline-earth chalcogenides MX (M = Ca, Mg and X = O, S, Se) and alkali and alkali-earth metals (Li, Na, and Mg) in diatomic and solid-state systems using an embedding approach based on the frozen density functional theory to simulate the crystalline effects. The computational protocol established provid...

Stabilized Spin-Polarized Jellium Model and Odd-Even Alternations in Jellium Metal Clusters

In this paper, we have considered the mechanical stability of a jellium system in the presence of spin degrees of freedom and have generalized the stabilized jellium model, introduced by J. P. Perdew, H. Q. Tran, and E. D. Smith [ Phys. Rev. B 42, 11627 (1990)], to a spin-polarized case. By applying this generalization to metal clusters (Al, Ga, Li, Na, K, Cs), we gain additional insights about...
